Our Story

She came for the donkeys.

Our property owner Tara Jo Kirk made her way to Nashville in 2007 by way of a happy hour dare and the “big city” welcoming her with open arms. Growing up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin, she always loved the country and knew she’d get back there someday. Her search for acreage started…and continued…for years. No property was quite right, until she found her overgrown field of loblolly pines in Fairview, TN and the first farm animals of her own…the wild and wonderful donkeys. Her adventure of the heart started and Lolly Bee Bayou has since been a safe and happy home to donkeys, chickens, horses, goats and humans.

We’re staying for you.

We love Fairview. We’ve been so fortunate to have met so many sweet new friends and neighbors while exploring the culture of the city and surrounding areas outside of our little farm. Lolly Bee Bayou’s mission is to create a community of family, friends, lovers and neighbors - ALL creatures included. And we want to do that right here in Fairview, TN.

Why “Lolly Bee Bayou”?

Lolly

Fairview is home to thousands of Loblolly Pine trees, and about 100 of them live right here at our farm! It’s the reason Tara Jo Kirk decided to plant some roots here, as the pines reminded her of her home in Wisconsin. We shortened the name of the tree here, because who is “Lob” anyway?!

Bee

Bee comes from the many adventures with bee’s we experienced when cleaning up the land of brush and debris. We love bee’s and often thank them for all they do for us and for the food we eat! But dang, recovering from a swarm of them can make for a good story too. ;)

Bayou

Bayou is what we call her after a hefty rain storm. We love cajun culture here, so even though it’s not technically a “bayou”, it’s smooshy and wet like a bayou would be, so a (Tennessee) Bayou it is!
